Report: WWE Officials Met With Japanese Companies To Discuss Business Relationships

The latest on WWE's potential expansion plans.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE had representatives in Japan during the week of Feb. 4 to discuss business relations with different companies. No companies were named but Meltzer reports that this "opens the door for NXT Japan."

Triple H has made no secret of his desire to expand the NXT brand to more countries across the world. NXT UK got off the ground in 2018 with a weekly television show on the WWE Network, a TakeOver special in January and the opening of a Performance Center in the United Kingdom.

Triple H told the Hindustan Times in January, "I can say with certainty that there will be a Performance Center in India. There will be one in the Middle East and maybe one in Latin America. We will be replicating this process over and over again."

WWE held tryouts in Chile in December and are set to hold tryouts in India in March.

WWE has signed top Japanese stars such as Hideo Itami, Shinsuke Nakamura, Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Io Shirai in recent years. Japan is home to major organizations such as NJPW, AJPW, Pro Wrestling NOAH, Stardom, Dragon Gate and more.
