AEW Dynamite (8/9/23) Results: Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Perry For FTW Title, Hardys vs. Young Bucks

AEW hosted its latest episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, live from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

This week features a mandatory Jericho Appreciation Society meeting. Also, Rob Van Dam steps into an AEW ring to face Jack Perry for the FTW Title, The Hardys take on The Young Bucks, and more.

AEW Dynamite (8/9/23) Results

- The mandatory Jericho appreciation society meeting kicked off the show. Daniel Garcia spoke up first, telling Jericho he never listens and that he betrayed who he is as a person for Jericho. Daniel Garcia said he couldn't do it anymore and left the group. Jake Hager was up next and followed suit, leaving Jericho. Anna Jay and Tay Melo also quit. Melo promised to come back next year and become a champion without him. Angelo Parker was out the door next.

Matt Menard says Chris Jericho was his hero and says that the last 18 months have been a dream for him, but he never understood why people he came up with in the industry don't like Jericho, but now he's starting to understand. Matt then leaves. Sammy Guevara was last saying he won't walk out on Jericho. He says he might be there if Jericho works out his stuff. Jericho was left alone and dejected.

- Don Callis approaches Chris Jericho backstage and apologizes for possibly playing a role in the dissolution of the JAS. Jericho claims to have an answer for Callis about his faction and plans to deliver it next week.

* The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) def. The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy)

- After the match, the Young Bucks shook the hands of Matt and Jeff Hardy. Nick Jackson then grabbed a microphone and called out FTR. FTR arrived, and they agreed to a match at Wembley Stadium for AEW All In: London.

- MJF and Adam Cole are hanging out in a pre-taped vignette. Cole rejects MJF's skinny dipping offer. Instead, Cole recommends a trampoline park. Adam wants to show Max how high he can bounce on the trampoline. Max goes to play dodgeball and enjoys taking out a handful of kids with some vicious throws. Adam Cole tries to stop him until a little girl comes up and calls them nerds for being there and even flips them off. Adam allows Max to throw one more as the screen fades to black.

- Backstage, Jon Moxley brags about Blackpool Combat Club's AEW Rampage victory against Best Friends and claims they don't belong in the same ring. Claudio Castagnoli brings up PAC's injury and accepts the blame for it, beaming ear to ear while doing so. PAC will be missing AEW All In.

Excalibur announces a tournament that will confirm the four women that will face off for the AEW Women's World Title at AEW All In. The winner of tonight's championship match will defend against Toni Storm, plus the winner of future matches between Saraya & Skye Blue and either The Bunny or Britt Baker.

* FTW Rules for FTW Championship: Jack Perry (c) def. Rob Van Dam. A steel chair took out the original referee to the face. Rob Van Dam had the match wrapped up after a Five-Star Frog Splash. Aubrey Edwards had to run down to the ring, giving Perry enough time to kick out. Perry hit a low blow, drove RVD's head into a steel chair, and rolled him up, holding the tights for victory.

- Lucha Brothers cut a promo about facing the Blackpool Combat Club later tonight.

- MJF and Adam Cole are now live in front of the audience. Max thinks Adam wants to host a promo battle ahead of their match in Wembley Stadium. Max says Adam is so skinny and white that Hulk Hogan would have snorted him in the 80s. Adam says that's not what he wants. Adam convinces Max they should challenge for the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship on All In's Zero Hour. Max agrees.

Roderick Strong interrupts this bro fest. He's sad that Cole would rather be with Max than him. Max says that Rodney needs to do what all generic white people do: go home, cry, and listen to Taylor Swift. Roddy says the kingdom was right about Adam. The Kingdom comes out to console Roddy. Adam gets pissed off and shoves Max because he roasted Strong. Adam apologizes to Max before going to check on his friend.

* Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) def. Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli) Mox rolled up Penta after unmasking him.

- After the match, the Blackpool Combat Club attacks the Lucha Brothers. Castagnoli takes Penta's mask, wears it, and continues to beat him up.

- Backstage, Kenny Omega tells Alex Marvez he's rooting for The Young Bucks over FTR in Wembley Stadium, but "the fans win that one." Marvez asks about what Omega plans to do for AEW All In, and he says he'll discuss it with Jim Ross next week.

- Swerve Strickland and Mogul Embassy come out to the ring. AR Fox calls out Darby Allin. Allin wants AR Fox to explain the entire story to the crowd, claiming he attempted to help Fox make it to AEW. Darby says that no matter what, he will always respect AR Fox, but it appears Fox has new friends. Darby says that's okay because he has some old friends. When the lights go out, Sting shows up and begins to take out members of the Mogul Embassy. Darby comes out and chases away some of the members, and Swerve doesn't realize he's in there alone with the Stinger, who is rocking a little bit of extra face paint around his mouth, alluding to a joker grin. Sting holds the bat to Swerve Strickland's throat and then points to the banner in the arena with the AEW All In logo. It is later announced that AR Fox and Swerve Strickland will compete in a Coffin Match at All In against Darby Allin and Sting.

* AEW Women's Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) def. Anna Jay

- Shida celebrates as the show goes off the air.
