WWE NXT Results for 9/8/20 NXT Super Tuesday II Bälor Becomes NXT Champion

Good evening Fight Fans, and welcome to tonight's coverage for NXT! Please enjoy the show and be sure to check out the post show podcast afterwards!

- We open tonight's show with a video package for Rhea Ripley versus Mercedes Martinez and the end of the Iron Man match which ended in a tie. We then get a video package for Adam Cole and Finn Bälor ahead of their match for the vacant NXT Championship.

- We open in the PC as Finn and Adam come out to the ring, the NXT title match opening the show.

NXT Championship Match

Adam Cole vs Finn Bälor

Adam backs Finn into the corner before Finn turns it around for a clean break before Finn picks the ankle of Adam. Finn locks in a rear chin lock before Adam gets to his feet and Finn takes him back down with a side headlock. Finn drops Adam with a shoulder block once he gets to his feet before Adam transitions into a hammer lock. Back on their feet Finn hits a snap mare and wrenches a headlock on a grounded Cole. Cole goes back to the hammer lock and turns it into a pinning predicament for two before Finn takes Adam back down with an arm drag.

Finn locks in a straight armbar before locking in a head scissors while manipulating the wrist of Cole. Adam hits a basement dropkick to get free before rocking Finn with a forearm and chopping him against the ropes. Adam then hits an ushigoroshi for two as we go to commercial.

Finn is in control as we come back to the action, having Cole grounded with a side headlock until Adam gets to his feet and hits a jaw breaker. Finn drops Adam with a back elbow and hits a scoop slam into an elbow drop for two. Finn stomps Adam down in the corner before chopping him and hitting a basement dropkick for two. Finn whips Adam into the corner and hits a running chop before Adam comes back with a clothesline into a back elbow and a pump kick. Adam rocks Finn with an enzuigiri and follows up with a back stabber for two before they counter each other until Finn hits a sling blade.

Adam catches Finn coming in when he goes for a sling blade and hits him with a shining wizard for two before Finn counters a Last Shot into a jumping stomp. Finn stomps Adam in the ring and at ringside before tossing Adam into a chair at ringside. Adam then superkicks Finn when he runs at him, going for a shotgun dropkick as we go to commercial.

We come back to Finn up top before Adam rolls out of the way of the Coup De Grace and locks in a figure four. Finn scoots to the ropes for the break before hitting a sling blade into a reverse DDT. Finn hits a shotgun dropkick in the corner before climbing up top and hitting the Coup De Grace for a near fall. Adam counters 1916 into another figure four before Finn counters into an inside cradle for a near fall. Adam superkicks Finn and hits the Last Shot for a near fall of his own before Finn counters the Panama Sunrise into an inverted 1916.

Finn then goes back up top, but Adam is ready, superkicking Finn before Finn hits an avalanche 1916 for the pin and the win.

Winner: Finn Bälor defeats Adam Cole via pinfall to become the new NXT champion.

- Rhea Ripley cuts a promo ahead of her steel cage match against Mercedes Martinez in tonight's main event as we go to commercial.

- Backstage Finn is congratulated by various Superstars on the roster and Triple H before sharing a Too Sweet with Adam Cole.

- Robert Stone steals the interviewer when she's trying to interview Finn before Robert takes us to where Shotzi parks her tank. Aliyah attacks Shotzi from behind before she collides with NXT Women's champion Io Shirai who is having a photo shoot. Io then chases Aliyah to the ring before she and Shotzi take her and Robert out before facing off until Io takes her belt and leaves.

- We go to Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae in their home talking before the doorbell rings and they welcome Tegan Nox in. Tegan then joins the Garganos for dinner as we go to commercial.

- We come back to this week's session of Timothy Thatcher's Wrestling School where he shows his class a video of North American champion Damian Priest.

Velveteen Dream vs Ashante Adonis

The two start with mind games and trash talk each other before exchanging words and Dream slaps Adonis who attacks Dream and nearly picks up the win. Dream then thumbs the eye of Adonis before hitting the Dream Valley Driver for the pin and the win.

Winner: Velveteen Dream defeats Ashante Adonis via pinfall.

- KUSHIDA shows up out of nowhere and attacks Dream as pay back for attacking him several weeks ago.

- We go to the NXT Tag Team champions Breezango with their belts before we get a recap of thek capturing the belts from Imperium. Imperium cut in and say Breezango are a joke and disgrace to everything they stand for and that they're going to take their titles back next Wednesday.

- We then get a graphic for a grudge match between Bronson Reed and Austin Theory up next as we go to commercial.

- We come back to dinner with the Garganos and Tegan Nox before Johnny takes the dog and leaves upstairs. Candice and Tegan debate what Candice refers to as the "Gargano Way" where Candice says that she's always been a big sister to Tegan and she's never done her wrong. Candice then asks a reluctant Nox what she has to lose as we go back to the ring.

Bronson Reed vs Austin Theory

Reed locks in a side headlock and takes Austin down to a knee before taking him down to the mat. Austin gets to his feet and gets knocked across the ring before Reed hits a springboard elbow drop for two. Reed hip tosses Austin from the apron back into the ring before locking in a rear chin lock. Theory gets back to his feet and goes for a sunset flip before Reed sits on his chest for a near fall. Austin then rolls out of the ring before Reed hits a diving shoulder tackle off of the apron as we go to commercial.

Reed is still in control as we come back to the action until he hits a Samoan drop into the Jagged Edge for a near fall. Austin hits a back suplex before hitting a rolling blockbuster before he collapses when trying to put Reed on his shoulders. Reed then falls on top of Theory and hits a senton into the Tsunami Splash for the pin and the win.

Winner: Bronson Reed defeats Austin Theory via pinfall.

-Backstage Adam Cole is interviewed after his failing to capture the NXT title and that he respects Finn after what they've been through. Adam then says that he will win the title when he gets another shot at Finn and that's undisputed before he leaves as we go to commercial.

- We get a promo by Mercedes Martinez ahead of her cage match against Rhea Ripley in tonight's main event.

Roderick Strong w/ Bobby Fish vs Killian Dain

Roddy mocks Dain before chopping him across the chest and Dain chases Strong around ringside. Fish gets in the way before Strong attacks Dain and rolls him back inside before beating him down in the corner. Dain throws Roddy into the corner and clotheslines him before Roddy hits a single leg lariat that sends Dain out of the ring. Dain then hits Strong with a uranage from the apron before Fish knocks Dain off of the apron as we go to commercial.

Dain hits a running cross body for a near fall before slamming Roddy down and hitting a senton before Bobby pulls Roddy out of the way. Dain then drops Fish from the apron before Roddy knocks Dain out with a jumping knee for the pin and the win.

Winner: Roderick Strong defeats Killian Dain via pinfall.

- UE attack Dain after the match before Drake Maverick comes out to help Dain, but gets beat down. Dain then runs UE off with a pipe before Drake tries to shake the hand of Dain and gets knocked out with a right hand.

- Back at the Gargano house Candice and Tegan talk about which one of them will beat Io to become the NXT Women's champion. Candice and Tegan get into a food fight before Johnny gets between them and Tegan pours spaghetti on Johnny. Candice then accidentally destroys their television and Tegan flees out of the house as Johnny mourns his busted television.

-We come back to an interview with the North American champion Damian Priest where he's informed that he'll defend his title against Timothy Thatcher next week.

Steel Cage Match

Rhea Ripley vs Mercedes Martinez w/Robert Stone

Mercedes brings a kendo stick to the ring before piling chairs in the cage and grabs a table before Rhea attacks her from behind. Rhea slams the door of the cage into Mercedes before rolling her into the ring and sliding in a table. The door locks and the match officially starts before Mercedes tosses Rhea into side of the cage repeatedly. Mercedes beats on Rhea before Rhea ducks a chair shot and stretches Mercedes in the ropes. Rhea beats on Mercedes before getting distracted by Robert at ringside, but Mercedes can't capitalize on the distraction.

Mercedes then counters the Rip Tide into a fisherman's buster before suplexing Rhea onto a chair for two as we go to commercial.

We come back to Mercedes hitting a spider suplex before Rhea throws a chair at Mercedes. Rhea climbs up top and hits a superplex for two before Mercedes comes back with a spine buster. Rhea ducks a roundhouse kick and plants Mercedes face first into the mat before locking in the Prism Trap. Rhea breaks the hold and hits Mercedes with a kendo stick before Robert gets hung up on the top of the cage. Mercedes hits Rhea with the stick from behind before smashing her face into the side of the cage and following up with an avalanche neck breaker.

Mercedes covers Rhea after several moments for a near fall before setting the table up and setting Rhea up on the top turnbuckle. Rhea then counters a fisherman's suplex through the table before hitting an avalanche Rip Tide through the table for the pin and the win.

Winner: Rhea Ripley defeats Mercedes Martinez via pinfall.
