WWE Main Event Report For January 5: Dana Brooke vs. Mickie James & Akira Tozawa In Action

Mickie James vs. Dana Brooke w/Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews

The match begins with James taking Brooke down during the lock up, Brooke gets free and she works on the arm of James. James gets Brooke down again before wrenching away on her arm, Brooke then catches James in a headlock before dropping her with a shoulder tackle. Brooke follows that up by clobbering James with a clothesline followed by a handspring splash for a near fall, Brooke corners James before landing a handspring elbow for another near fall. Brooke then applies the chin lock to a downed James, James gets free and Brooke drops her with another clothesline followed by another chin lock.

James gets free again and she nails a charging Brooke with a back elbow strike, James then hits Brooke with a hurricarana and multiple clotheslines. James looks for the Mick-DT and Brooke backs her into the corner, James recovers and applies a rope assisted head scissors to Brooke. James then hits Brooke with a running neck breaker and Brooke rolls out of the ring, Brooke gets back in the ring and James drops her with a striking combination. James goes for the Mick-DT and Brooke counters with a roll up for the three count.

Winner: Dana Brooke w/Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews

- We then see highlights of Asuka defeating WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss on WWE Raw, followed by highlights of Becky Lynch’s return on WWE Smackdown.

- Highlights are then shown of Kevin Owens defeating WWE Champion AJ Styles in a non-title match on WWE Smackdown two weeks ago, plus a look at the growing rivalry between Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon.

- Up next is highlights from Sami Zayn defeating WWE Champion AJ Styles from this past week on WWE Smackdown, then the announcement that Styles is defending the title against Zayn & Kevin Owens at the WWE Royal Rumble.

- Highlights are then shown of the feud between WWE Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe, then we see highlights of Reigns defeating Joe last week on Raw.

Akira Tozawa vs. Tony Nese

The match begins with Tozawa working over Nese with a headlock, Tozawa also starts wrenching away on the arm of Nese before landing chops. Tozawa drops Nese with a jab before stomping away on him in the corner, Nese creates space with Tozawa before dropping him with a shoulder tackle. Nese decides to just stomp away on a downed Tozawa, Nese then hits Tozawa with a jumping leg drop for a near fall. Tozawa rolls through a Nese sunset flip to land a penalty kick and senton bomb, Nese rolls out of the ring and kicks Tozawa in the head during a dive as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Nese apply a bear hug to a downed Tozawa, Nese goes for a suplex and Tozawa nails him with knee strikes. Nese and Tozawa both go down after kicking each other in the face, Tozawa then knocks Nese out of the ring before landing a suicide dive. Tozawa gets Nese back in the ring for a near fall, Tozawa goes for a belly to back suplex and Nese counters with a roll up for a near fall. Nese then attacks Tozawa with a series of kicks, Tozawa recovers to drop Nese with a windmill kick to the head. Tozawa then hits Nese with a top rope senton bomb for a three count.

Winner: Akira Tozawa

- The show closes with WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman appearing on WWE Raw, then brawling with Kane before getting separated by WWE superstars.
