WWE NXT Results for 7/29/20 Lumis Earns a Spot in North American Title Ladder Match

Good evening Fight Fans and welcome to our coverage for tonight's edition of WWE NXT!

- We open tonight's show with a recap of the end of last week's show in which Keith Lee and Karrion Kross had a face off after Kross submitted Dominik Dijakovic while Keith watched helplessly at ringside.

Io Shirai & Tegan Nox vs Candice LeRae & Dakota Kai

NXT Women's champion Io Shirai before she's attacked from behind by Dakota Kai. Tegan Nox comes out and attacks Dakota before Candice LeRae soon joins and the match starts once Tegan and Candice are in the ring. Candice takes control early before Tegan comes back with forearms and Kai and Shirai come in and Kai sweeps Shirai before Io hits her with Muay Thai knees. Io hits a snap mare into a kick to the face before they run the ropes and Io hits an arm drag into a basement dropkick before Kai hits a monkey flip and rocks her with an enzuigiri for two. Candice comes in and covers Io before she and Dakota start chaining together offense and frequent tags before Io hits a flapjack to Kai and stretches her before locking in a lotus lock that Candice breaks up. Tegan then dumps Candice out of the ring and Candice drags Io out of the ring before sending her into the plexiglass and sending Tegan into the steps as we go to commercial.

We come back to Tegan and Candice collapsing after Tegan headbutts Candice and Io and Kai come back in and run the ropes before Io hits several back flips and a dropkick. Io hits a springboard dropkick to Kai after knocking Candice off of the apron with a shotei for two before Kai counters a Tiger driver and Io hits a back suplex before Kai meets Io when she goes up top for the moonsault. Io knocks Kai down and puts her in the tree of woe before hitting a diving stomp for two before rocking Candice once she enters the match and following up with a missile dropkick. Io hits the bullet train into a suicide dive before Tegan hits Candice with The Shiniest Wizard when the referee is checking on Io and Dakota at ringside. Io then gets back up top and hits a moonsault for the pin and the win.

Winner: Io Shirai and Tegan Nox defeat Candice LeRae and Dakota Kai via pinfall.

- We get a recap of Adam Cole on the Pat McAfee Show where Adam gets into a heated argument with Pat and nearly gets in his face before he's stopped by a producer. We're then told that there was an apparent miscommunication according to Triple H via Zoom before Triple H talks to Pat and says that he will find a way for he and Adam to address the issue as we go to commercial.

- We come back from the break to a quick recap of Bronson Reed defeating Johnny Gargano and Roderick Strong to enter the North American Championship Ladder Match at Takeover: XXX next month. We then go to tweets between Gargano and Strong where a flame war ensued between the two after they lost to Reed before William Regal interjected and made a match between the two for tonight's show.

Johnny Gargano vs Roderick Strong

The two lock up and grapple on the mat before they start countering each other's signature submissions and make their way back to their feet before having a shoving match. Roddy takes Johnny down with an ankle pick before Roddy gets a pair of two counts from a front choke on the mat and Johnny locks in a double stretch muffler. Johnny gets two off of a back slide before hitting a side headlock takeover and Roddy makes his way back to his feet before Johnny hits a hurricanrana and Roddy catches Johnny when he goes for a slingshot spear. Johnny then counters a draping DDT and sends Roddy out of the ring before slamming him down onto the floor by his arm as we go to commercial.

We come back to Roddy in control back in the ring, hitting a backbreaker for two before setting Johnny up in the corner and Johnny comes back with a twisting flat liner for a two count of his own. They dodge each other's kicks before Johnny counters an Olympic slam into an attempted Gargano Escape, but Roddy cradles him for two before Johnny counters a Boston crab. Roddy drops Johnny with an up kick and Johnny sends him out of the ring with a superkick before missing a baseball slide, but hitting a head scissors into the barricade. Johnny then sends Roddy into the plexiglass at ringside before rolling him back into the ring and hitting The Final Beat for the pin and the win.

Winner: Johnny Gargano defeats Roderick Strong via pinfall.

- We go backstage to an interview with Dakota Kai who says that she's tired of being a team player and is done with tag matches before saying that she's the number one contender for the women's title. Kai then starts to leave before Rhea Ripley comes up and takes offense at her saying that she's the number one contender before Kai says that she's going to talk to General Manager Regal and leaves as we go back to commercial.

- Timothy Thatcher is interviewed backstage about his triple threat match against Finn Balor and Dexter Lumis in tonight's main event.

- We go to Undisputed Era arguing backstage and Kyle tries to re-energize everyone before they leave with more energy and renewed vigor as we go back to the ring for our next match.

Shotzi Blackheart vs Mercedes Martinez w/Robert Stone & Aliyah

Shotzi rushes Mercedes and gets beat down before she's tossed out of the ring and Robert distracts Shotzi before Mercedes capitalizes and drops Shotzi face first across the edge of the apron. Back in the ring Mercedes punches Shotzi in mount before Shotzi gets a one count off of a small package when Mercedes goes for a fisherman's buster. Shotzi hits a sunset flip powerbomb for two and hits a bulldog before rocking Mercedes with a knee lift and a discus forearm into a switch blade kick that drops her down to her knees before hitting an inverted cannonball against the ropes for two. Mercedes catches Shotzi coming off of the ropes and hits a spinebuster for two before punching Shotzi in mount and lifting her up before Shotzi counters another fisherman's buster and Mercedes counters a shiranui in the corner. Mercedes then hits spider suplex off of the top before hitting a variation of an air raid crash for the pin and the win.

Winner: Mercedes Martinez defeats Shotzi Blackheart via pinfall.

- We get a graphic for Keith Lee who will address Karrion Kross up next as we go to commercial.

- We come back to a video package for NXT UK's Ridge Holland who is set to make his NXT proper debut on next week's show.

- NXT champion Keith Lee comes out to the ring and says that Dom will be just fine after his match against Kross and that all of the extra stuff that Kross has done means nothing when Kross won't come to Keith face to face. Keith calls Kross out and Cameron Grimes comes out instead and says that he's going to the moon before Keith grabs him by the throat and tosses him into the ring before hitting a running splash in the corner. The lights then go out and Scarlett comes out onto the ramp and Grimes tries to hit The Cave-In off of the distraction, but gets hit with a Spirit Bomb for his troubles. Kross appears on the big screen and says that Keith stood by while Dom suffered before giving Keith two choices, an easy one where he gives Kross a title shot and a hard way before saying that Keith doesn't want to know what that is. Keith then immediately gives Kross a rebuttal and tells Kross to pick a time and place and he will face him before Scarlett leaves as we go to commercial.

Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) vs Ever-Rise

Marcel and Matt start things off with Marcel hitting a deep arm drag before Fabian gets a blind tag and hits an arm drag of his own before locking in a shoulder lock and Chase tags himself in before Matt sweeps Fabian and Chase a slingshot elbow drop. ER then double up on Fabian before Fabian catches Chase and slams him on top of Matt before Imperium hit their signature double dropkick and a spinebuster into a PK and hit the European bomb for the pin and the win.

Winner: Imperium defeat Ever-Rise via pinfall.

- Imperium celebrate after the match and say that they have returned before the entirety of Undisputed Era come out and lay them out before leaving.

- We get a video package for Bronson Reed in which he narrates and talks about his journey to NXT on his way to the North American championship ladder match as we go to commercial.

- We return from the break to William Regal via Zoom who says that he won't be bullied into giving out title matches and that they will be earned before we go back to the ring for Isaiah Scott versus Jake Atlas.

Isaiah Scott vs Jake Atlas

Isaiah hits several head scissors and they run the ropes before dodging each other and doing flips until Jake dropkicks Scott. Jake then comes back with a head scissors before Isaiah gets two off a crucifix before Jake chops him in the corner and Isaiah drops Jake with an enzuigiri as Jake rolls out onto the apron as we go to commercial.

We come back to Jake hitting a springboard blockbuster for two before rocking Isaiah with a kick and hitting a one percenter for another two count before Isaiah hits a release German suplex into a neckbreaker for two. They both get up on the top turnbuckle and exchange strikes until Jake hits an avalanche twisting Samoan drop for a near fall before Isaiah counters the Rainbow DDT and Isaiah superkicks him before hitting The House Call. Isaiah then rolls Jake back into the ring before hitting the JML driver for the pin and the win.

Winner: Isaiah Scott defeats Jake Atlas via pinfall.

- We get a backstage interview with Damian Priest ahead of his triple threat match against Ridge Holland and Oney Lorcan for a shot to get into the North American title ladder match on next week's show as we go to commercial.

- We come back to graphics for several matches for next week's show including the triple threat match for the ladder match at Takeover between Priest, Holland and Lorcan, a women's title number one contender match between Dakota Kai and Rhea Ripley as well as Undisputed Era's Fish and O'Reilly challenging for the tag titles against Imperium on next week's show.

North American Championship Ladder Match Triple Threat Qualifier Match

Finn Balor vs Dexter Lumis vs Timothy Thatcher

Dexter clears the ring before he teases a tope and lands on his feet when they get out of the way before dropping Finn and Tim with strikes once they back in the ring. Dexter hits Finn with a back drop driver for two and sends Tim out of the ring and down onto the floor before Finn comes back and Tim rocks him and Dexter with uppercuts. Tim then hits a belly to belly suplex for to onto Dexter before Finn hits Dexter with an enzuigiri and Tim knocks Finn off of the top and onto the apron as we go to commercial.

Finn gets two off of a roll up on Tim before Thatcher drops him with an uppercut and knees him in the ribs before knocking Dexter off of the apron and back down onto the floor before turning his focus back onto Finn. Tim slams Finn and hits an elbow drop for two before kneeing Dexter back off of the apron and exchanges strikes with Finn until Finn drops him and Tim kicks him away before Dexter clotheslines Tim. Dexter hits a bulldog to Tim before Finn hits him with a Pele kick and drives both of his opponents down onto the canvas before Tim wraps Finn's leg around the post and torques the knee of Finn before Dexter slides out of the ring and rocks Tim with an thrust to the throat. Back in the ring Dexter hits a spinebuster to Tim before Tim counters Silence and hits Finn with a dragon screw in the ropes before Dexter hits a uranage into The Silence. Finn hits a Coup de Grace to break up the submission and covers Dexter for a near fall that Tim breaks up before Tim locks in an ankle lock and Dexter locks in The Silence on Tim while Tim has Dexter in the ankle lock.

Dexter then chokes Tim unconscious while he has the ankle lock on Finn until the referee makes him break up the hold for the win.

Winner: Dexter Lumis defeats Timothy Thatcher and Finn Balor via submission to gain entry into the North American Championship Ladder Match.

- Dexter leaves up the ramp and eyes the North American title on the podium as we go off the air.
