WWE Smackdown on FOX Results for 7/3/20 Intercontinental Championship Match

Good evening Fight Fans and welcome to our coverage for tonight's edition of WWE Smackdown on FOX! Please enjoy the show and be sure to stick around for the post show podcast.

- We open tonight's show with several graphics including a look at the Universal Championship swamp match at Extreme Rules: The Horror Show before Matt Riddle comes out to the ring for an interview. Matt talks about his debut against AJ and how he likes AJ more than AJ likes him, Matt going on to say that celebrating with the roster after his victory was a very special moment. Cole then asks Matt why he competes without shoes on before he's interrupted by King Corbin who calls Matt an idiot among other things. Corbin tells Matt that he should bow to him and that he should be ready for a match at any moment before knocking Matt's hat off and they are about ready to go at it before they're interrupted by John Morrison. John and The Miz then make their way down to ringside for John's match against Matt up next as we go to commercial.

Matt Riddle vs John Morrison w/ The Miz

They start things off by grappling on the mat, Matt taking John down several times before John rocks Matt and Matt goes for a standing double wrist lock, but John gets free. Matt hits several suplexes before John comes back with a slam and goes for a PK, but Matt has his scouted and catches his foot before locking in an ankle lock. Matt transitions and goes for a German suplex, but John lands on his feet and hits a springboard roundhouse kick for two before grounding Matt with a rear headlock. Matt comes back with forearms and sends John over the top rope and onto the apron before John hits an enzuigiri into a springboard corkscrew cross body for two. John rocks Matt with a knee and hits a running one for two before putting another rear headlock on Matt until he gets to his feet and John kicks him in the chest before poking him in the eyes.

Matt comes back with a brainbuster and gets back to his feet before John sends Matt over the top rope and onto the apron before they hit each other with forearms and Matt falls to the floor as John falls to the mat. Matt then gets up and throws his shoe at Corbin at the announce desk before running back into the ring and the referee has to keep Corbin at bay as we go to commercial.

We come back to Matt in control, hitting a senton into a BTS and a German suplex before he goes for the Flowing Bro, but John gets his knees up and sweeps Matt's legs out. Matt comes back with the Bromission, but John gets free and hits a diving Spanish fly into a standing Spanish fly for a near fall. They exchange forearms up to their feet before Matt hits the Final Flash and John dropkicks him before Matt hits a powerbomb into the Final Flash for a near fall. Matt then rolls up John after The Miz tries to interfere and gets knocked off the apron before they exchange pins until Matt pins John for the win.

Winner: Matt Riddle defeats John Morrison via pinfall.

- After the match AJ Styles comes out and attacks Matt from behind before he's attacked from behind by Gulak and they're broken up by officials as we go to commercial.

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match

AJ Styles (c) vs Drew Gulak

We come back from the break to the match already in progress with AJ stomping Drew around the ring before Drew gets two off of a sunset flip when AJ has in an electric chair. AJ comes back and hits Drew with forearms in the corner before hitting a jumping forearm to Drew on the mat for two as Daniel Bryan starts chiming in on Zoom every few minutes in a small box in the corner of the screen. AJ starts focusing on the leg and knee of Drew to set up the Calf Crusher before Drew momentarily comes back with forearms and counters the Calf Crusher into a straight armbar with a chin bar. AJ then gets to the ropes for the break and rolls out of the ring before Drew hits a baseball slide and and knocks AJ to the floor as we go to commercial.

We come back to Drew in control until AJ hits a brainbuster for two and hits a pair of backbreakers for another two count before Drew comes back with right hands and stomps AJ down in the corner. AJ snaps Drew's neck against the top rope and locks in a cravat into a snap mare before putting Drew in a rear headlock and Drew drops AJ face first into the top turnbuckle. Drew hits a powerslam for two and sets AJ on the top turnbuckle before AJ slides out of the back when Drew goes for a powerslam. AJ then powerbombs Drew and hits a Styles Clash before propping him against the ropes and calling for the Phenomenal Forearm which he hits for the pin and the win.

Winner: AJ Styles retains his Intercontinental Championship by defeating Drew Gulak via pinfall.

- After the match the Women's Tag champions, Sasha Banks and Bayley come out of a production truck as we go to commercial.

- We come back to the ring as Sasha and Bayley come out and trash The Undertaker, mocking him and his career before they celebrate their tag reign so far with an extended video package. The party is then crashed by the former champions in the form of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.The four women then exchange words before Alexa shoves Bayley down and Sasha talks Bayley into a match with Alexa which Alexa accepts as we go to commercial.

Alexa Bliss vs Bayley

We return from the break to the match in progress, Alexa hitting a drop toe hold into a dropkick before standing on the back of Bayley and slaps her across the face in the corner for two. Alexa snaps Bayley to the mat and hits Insult to Injury for two before Bayley drops her across the top turnbuckle and tosses Alexa out onto the apron. Alexa pulls Bayley's legs out before Alexa tries to get back into the ring and Bayley catches Alexa with a knee before stomping her and focusing on her left arm for a two count. Bayley applies a shoulder lock on the ring shoulder before slamming her to the mat and Alexa rolls Bayley up for two before Bayley drops her with a clothesline for a two count of her own. Bayley hits a running back elbow in the corner and stomps Alexa before Alexa drops her with a right hand and Bayley gets out of the ring and slams Alexa's arm across the edge of the apron for two.

Bayley mocks Nikki at ringside and hits a running splash in the corner into a bulldog out of the corner for two before Nikki gets up on the apron and Bayley sends Alexa into a knee from Sasha who gets on the opposite side of the apron when the referee is busy with Nikki. Nikki then clotheslines Sasha at ringside before punching Bayley for the disqualification..

Winner: Bayley defeats Alexa Bliss via disqualification.

- After the match Nikki splashes Bayley against the ropes and Sasha drags her out of the ring before we get a graphic for Sheamus' cheer to the career of Jeff Hardy.

- We then get a graphic for the swamp match between the Universal champion Braun Strowman and former champion Bray Wyatt at Extreme Rules: The Horror Show up next as we go to commercial.

- We come back to an extended video package for the swamp match for the Universal Title before we go back to the ring for our next match between Big-E and as we go back to commercial.

Kofi Kingston w/Big-E vs Shinsuke Nakamura w/Cesaro

Kofi immediately hits Shin with a running dropkick and stomps him in the corner before hitting another dropkick and Shin comes back with knees to the midsection. Kofi dropkicks Shin yet again and sends him out of the ring before Kofi goes out after Shin and they try to send each other into the post until Kofi sends Shin into the plexiglass. Kofi tosses Shin back into the ring and climbs to the top before Cesaro knocks Kofi off of the top and Shin hits Bad Vibrations before E attacks Cesaro and chases him around ringside. Cesaro then gets onto the apron and does his best to avoid E before he's ejected from ringside as we go to commercial.

Shin is in control as we come back to the action, hitting a sliding German suplex for two before kicking Kofi in the chest and punching him before dropping Kofi with a back elbow. Shin kicks Kofi in the spine and drags him out of the ring before hitting a running knee lift for two. They run the ropes, Kofi coming back with a forearm and a double ax handle into a dropkick before he comes off of the top rope and Shin gets his knees up for a near fall. Kofi turns the cover into one of his own for a near fall and Shin counters the SOS into a wheel kick that drops Kofi for two before dodging Trouble in Paradise. Kofi then gets a near fall off of a jumping stomp before Shin hits a Kinshasa for the pin and the win.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura defeats Cesaro via pinfall.

- After the match Cesaro comes back out and brings a table into the ring before E attacks him and stops he and Shin from putting Kofi through a table.

- it's announced that Braun and Bray's title match from Money in the Bank will be played in it's entirety next week as well as New Day defending their titles against The Artist Collective.

- We then see a bar tender in the ring with an assortment of alcohol for Sheamus' celebration up next as we go to commercial.

- Jeff Hardy comes out to the ring, Sheamus showing up on the big screen in his home where he mocks Jeff and gets under his skin before the bartender offers Jeff and drink. Jeff then takes the glass and sets it down on the table before picking it up and pouring it over the bar tenders head and busting a bottle over the back of his head. Jeff then kicks the bartender before hitting a swanton bomb and pointing at Sheamus on the second turnbuckle as we go off the air.
