WWE Smackdown! Live Results 8/22 The Modern Day Maharaja Era Keeps Rolling

This is the Fightful.com live coverage for WWE Smackdown! Live! We are just forty eight hours removed from WWE Summerslam and not much has changed on the Smackdown! Brand besides the Usos reclaiming the tag team titles and Natalya claiming the Women's Championship from Naomi. Jinder Mahal is still champion as is AJ Styles, but who knows how long that will last as Shinsuke is due a rematch. Will it be tonight? Be sure to come back here at 8 PM EST to find out!

-AJ Styles comes out to the ring to start the show and reinstates the United States Championship Open Challenge before Kevin Owens comes out. Kevin says that he was screwed over by Shane Sunday and that AJ didn't beat him before Shane comes out. Shane says that he called the match down the middle and AJ won fair and square. Kevin berates him and says that Shane assaulted him and was part of the reason why he lost before showing footage of how he believed that he won and that AJ's foot wasn't on the rope. Kevin asks why Shane's three count didn't count before they start arguing.

AJ tells them to shut up before insulting Kevin and offering a rematch. Shane agrees to make the match before Kevin says that he deserves to pick his own referee. Shane goes on to say that this is Kevin's last shot for as long as AJ is champion. We then have Daniel telling Jinder that the Singhs will face Shinsuke tonight as we go to commercial.

-Kevin asks Sami to referee his match tonight before leaving, telling Sami to think about it.

-Aiden English is singing in the ring before he's interrupted by the Smackdown! Live debut of Bobby Roode. 

Aiden English vs Bobby Roode

Roode mocks Aiden and plays to the crowd before they have a pose off and Roode clotheslines him out of the ring as we go to commercial.

Roode is in control as we come back from commercial, toying with Aiden and playing to the crowd before hitting a blockbuster. English comes back with the Director's Cut for a near fall before Roode hits a spinebuster and the Glorious DDT for the pin and the win.

Winner: Bobby Roode via pinfall

-Roode is then interviewed in the ring after the match before cutting a promo as we go to commercial.

-Daniel talks go Chad before introducing Shelton Benjamin as his new tag team partner. Kevin talks to Sami some more, handing him a referee shirt before Sami gives it back to him and leaves.

Hype Bros vs The Usos

Mojo and Jimmy start the match off with Mojo running wild on him before he tags Jey in and the Usos start tagging in and out and double teaming Mojo. The Usos keep Mojo grounded and isolated in their corner before Mojo finally tags Ryder in. Jimmy takes Ryder off of the top rope on the distraction by Jey and hits a superkick for the pin and the win.

Winner: The Usos via pinfall

Shinsuke Nakamura vs The Singh Brothers 2 on 1 Handicap Match

Shinsuke drops them both immediately to start the match before hitting a double Good Vibrations in the corner and double knees in the corner. Shinsuke gets distracted by Jinder before the brothers attack him from behind, then Shinsuke puts one of them in a flying triangle armbar for the tap and the win.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura via submission

-After the match Shinsuke lays Jinder out with a Kinshasa before leaving as we see Baron Corbin being picked as the special guest referee for the United States Championship Match tonight as we go to commercial.

-Natalya comes out to celebrate her title win before Carmella and James comes out and talks about how she's going to cash in and become the next champion.

Natalya & Carmella vs Becky Lynch & Naomi

Naomi and Carmella start the match off before Carmella quickly tags in Natalya as we go to commercial.

Becky is in control as we come back from commercial, hitting a leg drop for a quick two count. Natalya sends her face first into the middle turnbuckle before stomping on her in the corner. Becky gets dropped with a clothesline before Natalya drops Naomi off of the apron as well. Natalya goes to tag in Carmella, but she hops off of the apron before she can. Becky tags Naomi in before Naomi puts her in a submission that she gets out of before Natalya tags Carmella without her knowing.

Becky then hits an exploder suplex before Naomi hits a split legged moonsault for the pin and the win.

Winner: Becky Lynch & Naomi via pinfall

-We have an interview backstage with Dolph Ziggler where he mocks all kinds of people on the roster before leaving. Next we have Lana talking backstage with Tamina where Lana says that her journey to the title will begin next week.

AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens WWE United States Championship Match w/ Special Guest Referee Baron Corbin

Kevin toys with AJ to start the match, getting out of and back in the ring before attacking him from behind when AJ argues with Corbin. AJ dropkicks Kevin out of the ring before hitting a tope to the outside as we go to commercial.

-Kevin takes control as we come back from commercial, getting a quick two count after dropping AJ from the apron and tossing him into the barricade before rolling him back into the ring. Kevin drops AJ with a knee for another quick two count before putting him in a headlock. AJ comes back with a facebuster before hitting a series of strikes before finishing up with a sliding forearm and an ushigaroshi for a near fall. AJ locks in a Calf Killer before Corbin breaks it up, saying that Kevin touched the bottom rope before Kevin pushed AJ into him. They argue before Kevin gets a series of near falls off of quick counts before Shane comes out to the ring and chastises Corbin.

Kevin then hits a low blow to AJ for a near fall before Shane pulls Corbin out of the ring when he is about to count the pin. Corbin then takes his shirt off and tossed it to Shane who gladly gets back in the ring. AJ then hits the Phenomenal Forearm for the pin and the win.

Winner: AJ Styles via pinfall
