A busy week on the road for WWE included the final build to Money In The Bank and Takeover this coming weekend in Chicago, saw NXT send a crew throughout Europe, and marked the beginning of the 2018 UK tournament.
Let's start with the UK tournament, which had seven of the eight matches take place over two events on back-to-back days at Download Festival, where WWE's NXT brand has had a presence for the past few years. Jordan Devlin, Joe Coffey, Dave Mastiff, Ashton Smith, Flash Morgan Webster, Travis Banks, and Zack Gibson all advanced. The winner of the UK tourney will become the No. 1 contender to the WWE UK Title, which has been held by Pete Dunne for more than a year now.
The European tour also had several previews of matches set for Takeover: Chicago this Saturday, with Aleister Black facing NXT Title challenger Lars Sullivan, Johnny Gargano taking on Tommaso Ciampa, Shayna Baszler battling Nikki Cross for the NXT Women's Title, and the Undisputed ERA defending the NXT Tag Titles against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan.
The latest loop of Raw events was headlined by a six-man tag with Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Finn Balor going against Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Raw's house shows also marked the swan song for Baron Corbin's long hair before he debuted his new look on Raw. Two of the three Raw live events included a one-on-one match between real-life brothers Bo Dallas and Bray Wyatt. Over on the Smackdown loop, Daniel Bryan took on Big Cass in a preview of their match at Money In The Bank, while SAniTy had another set of tag matches against The Club while the former NXT faction continued to wait to make its televised debut on Smackdown.
