Fenix is living his dream.
As of this writing, it is coming up on the three-month anniversary of Rey Fenix's WWE debut. He dove into his time with the company thus far as he was being interviewed by SA Live to promote the July 18th SmackDown in San Antonio, Texas.
Fenix stated that he is living his dream.
“That means a lot. It’s a dream come true. The kid inside my heart, it’s very happy. I’m living the dream. I dream to be part of WWE universe from as a kid. So now, the dream come true and I’m very excited every day. I’m so happy.”
Just several weeks after his WWE debut, Fenix ended up competing at WrestleMania 41. Rey Mysterio went down with an injury, so Fenix filled in in the singles bout against El Grande Americano. He opened up about that experience:
“I remember the moment and still being nervous and I have no words to describe how amazing -- I remember that day was incredible from that first hour. When I received the message, like, ‘You have to work WrestleMania today.’ It was no words in my mouth. It was like, my mind blowing up. I can’t believe it. But so happy because I did it.”
On day two of WrestleMania 41, Fenix's brother Penta competed in a Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental Championship. Fenix stated that seeing his brother in action at a WrestleMania was 'indescribable.'
“I had this picture in my mind, these two kids, playing wrestling on my mom’s bed. Jumping from the couch to the floor, and playing as a kid… and with this big dream and that night, WrestleMania night, was indescribable. My brother is my older brother but I see him just more like a older brother, like my dad. So happy and very, very proud of my brother and of myself for sure.”
Over WrestleMania 41 weekend, WWE made the announcement that they acquired the AAA promotion. Two months later, the joint WWE x AAA Worlds Collide show took place at the Kia Forum.
Fenix was a part of the match card and said it meant a lot to him to have competed at that event.
“It’s a crazy moment, it’s a crazy moment (he smiled). But, I used to wrestle in AAA in Mexico I think for eight years? Nine years? And now, we got the opportunity to be in the WWE universe and come back to AAA. That means a lot for me and I got the opportunity to be part of Worlds Collide. The first Worlds Collide was -- I remember 1994? Where all my favorite wrestlers being part of that show. So, now, 2025, I’ll be part of the second-biggest Worlds Collide and I feel proud about me. I feel amazing, I feel proud about the lucha libre world. It’s my culture. In Mexico lucha libre, it’s more the sport, it’s a culture. The mask, it’s most like to be a superhero. It’s part of our culture, it’s amazing so being a part of Worlds Collide make me so happy and one more step in my career.”
Fenix is a member of the Friday Night SmackDown roster. He was in action on the 6/27 SmackDown in Saudi Arabia and teamed up with Andrade to defeat Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom).
