Rey Mysterio Comfortable Staying With Lucha Underground

“Leaving WWE happened at the right time. My contract was coming up, I truly felt burnt out, and I saw my kids had grown up almost in the blink of an eye. It was like they were babies and I was taking them to school, and, all of a sudden, my son was in his last year of high school. Time just flew. I didn’t realize because I was so caught up in what I was doing, and that was traveling so much and being away from home. I was gone four days a week, and it ate me up. I’m a father and I provided for my family, but I could only enjoy so much of that when I was always on the road. I’m not about the money, I’m about being around my wife and my children, and I’m enjoying that to the fullest right now,” said Mysterio.

Since leaving WWE, Mysterio has predominantly appeared for AAA and Lucha Underground. He took a big part in season two of Lucha Underground by winning the Lucha Underground Trios Championship. Mysterio explained why Lucha Underground provides enough to keep WWE in the rear view.

“You never say never, but I am very, very comfortable in the position I’m in with Lucha Underground. I love their schedule, I love their style, I love what they have to offer. I don’t think there will ever be another company that has what Lucha Underground has. It’s very unique, exciting, and fresh, this is really something new,” said Mysterio.

Mysterio recently defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. in a Loser Leaves Lucha match and was featured heavily in Aztec Warfare.

Mysterio would also discuss his son starting to train, his memories of WWE and other talent at Lucha Underground in his interview at SI.com
