One of the pioneers of modern cruiserweight wrestling gave a shout-out to WWE's new cruiserweight champion on Tuesday.
Rey Mysterio took to Twitter to congratulate Kalisto on winning the title, in response to a tweet by Kalisto that tagged Mysterio.
Kalisto's initial tweet also made mention of the late Eddie Guerrero, the WWE Hall of Famer and Mysterio's best friend, who would have turned 50 years old on Monday. Kalisto dedicated his title win to Guerrero's memory.
Mysterio himself was a three-time Cruiserweight Champion in WWE, and a five-time WCW Cruiserweight Champion.
Kalisto defeated Enzo Amore to win the title last night on Raw in a lumberjack match. It marked the third straight week that the cruiserweights had been in the final segment of Raw.
Mysterio last appeared on WWE programming on the April 7, 2014, episode of Raw, the night after WrestleMania. He reportedly has been in negotiations with WWE, GFW and ROH/New Japan as of late but no deals have materialized as of yet, with Mysterio's asking price reported to be the main sticking point.
