Dominik Mysterio is putting in the necessary work to carry forth his family's legacy.
Rey Mysterio began his professional wrestling career over 30 years ago. He has gone on to become one of the most celebrated and accomplished performers of all time. His latest achievement came at WrestleMania Backlash when and Dominik became the first father and son duo to win Tag Team gold in WWE.
Speaking with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Rey Mysterio shared that his son has to earn his name and mask, the same way he did from his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr.
“Yes, I definitely think he has to earn it," said Rey. "And he’s already gotten a bunch of points from me. I remember the first day I was given, or I had earned the name Rey Mysterio Jr was from my uncle. I did about three years wrestling as the Hummingbird thinking I would never become Rey Mysterio and then one day my uncle just surprised me and presented me with the mask."
Carrying on that family legacy is a point of pride for Rey, and he believes that Dominik is on the right path to also do so himself.
“From that moment on, I carried on with the Rey Mysterio legacy. I believe Dominik is on the path to earning the name and earning the mask, which comes with the name,” Mysterio said.
Dominik had his first match at SummerSlam 2020 against Seth Rollins. In addition to his Championship victory, he has also picked up wins over Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in singles competition as of late.
