Rey Mysterio: If I Could Be Reborn, I’d Pick Now As The Perfect Time To Become A Wrestler

Rey Mysterio comments on the global growth of Lucha Libre and wishes he was starting in the industry in 2025 instead of the early 1990s.

Rey Mysterio is one of the most innovative performers of his generation and has waved the banner of Lucha Libre on a global scale for three decades. Countless wrestlers of today cite him as an inspiration, and he feels the same level of reverence for them as he now says he wishes he could start over as a young wrestler in this era.

Speaking on Brown Bag Mornings, Rey Mysterio explains that he believes now is the perfect time for young professional wrestlers on the rise. As much as he’s enjoyed his time in the industry, he’s loving what the young talent is being afforded and the new heights they are getting to explore.

“The exposure is incredible. The evolution of the sport, and not just wrestling, in general, the evolution of so many things takes you to bigger and higher situations. If I could be reborn again, I would pick now as the perfect time to become a wrestler. I wish I was 20 years old and just breaking into the business, but I’m enjoying it. I really enjoyed the amount of time that I put into this business, and to see now the new generation of what they’re doing and how everything is being exposed and in such a cool way; it’s not disrespectful, it’s in a cool way. Fans know and fans appreciate that, too.”

Rey Mysterio is continuing his legacy with his son, Dominik Mysterio, in both AAA and WWE. His daughter, Aalyah, recently stepped into the ring for the first time, and he says she immediately fell in love with her time in the squared circle. Read his comments here.
