Rey Mysterio Recalls Pitching Heel Turn On Dominik, Says He's Glad It Didn't Happen

Rey Mysterio once pitched potentially turning heel.

Rey Mysterio is a beloved babyface. He teamed up with his son, Dominik, after the latter started wrestling for WWE in 2020. Dominik later turned on Rey in 2022, and they had a bitter feud that culminated in their match at WWE WrestleMania 39. They reignited their rivalry and faced off in a tag team match at WWE WrestleMania XL.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Rey Mysterio was asked about potentially turning heel in WWE. He revealed that he once pitched turning on Dominik, but they decided against it.

"I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together, I brought it up to Vince and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom and we continue with something along the ways. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like no, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel. Like you're Ricky Steamboat, nobody can ever see you as a heel, I don't think they would buy into it. I'm kind of glad that I listened and that they didn't listen to me. Because the best thing that could happen is for Dom to become the heel and be the evil one," Rey Mysterio said.

During the interview, Rey Mysterio commented on how long he wanted to keep wrestling. Click here to see what he had to say.

Rey Mysterio is set to face Dominik Mysterio on the July 1 episode of WWE Raw. More information is available here.
