For Rey Mysterio, while he never worked with McMahon on television, WWE is the promotion that made Rey Mysterio a World Heavyweight Champion, and WWE is the promotion he spent the most time working for, having just celebrated his 20th anniversary as a WWE Superstar.

Speaking to the media at the 2022 Leagues Cup Showcase (via TJSportsUSA), Rey Mysterio would say that he did not expect Vince McMahon to retire and that there is still an air of denial behind the scenes as WWE has functioned under the control of Vince McMahon for so long.

“None of us expected it,” he said. “We still are in denial that he's no longer there, but it is reality and we have to accept it. So we move on, we keep the show up and running.”

Asked what WWE needs to do to address its corporate culture, Mysterio said he's more concerned about the storylines, specifically the ones involving himself and his son, Dominik.

“To be honest with you, I'm more worried about what's happening with The Mysterios, and storylines and how do we make this product even better, you know? Everybody has their input, everybody has a little bit to give, come out on top and add the end of the day, entertain our fans.”

Currently, Rey Mysterio and his son, Dominik are embroiled in a rivalry with Judgement Day on Monday Night Raw.
