Ricochet Recalls Frustrations With Lucha Underground Delaying His Release

In Lucha Underground, Ricochet was put under a mask and dubbed Prince Puma. He was pushed as the top star in the promotion, becoming the first-ever Lucha Underground Champion.

But like many in Lucha Underground, Ricochet wasn't thrilled with the contract situation.

"Season three, they filmed like 36 episodes. I was supposed to wait until season three aired, then I had a 90-day no-work clause and then I could start doing stuff. I had to wait until the finale aired before the 90 days started. Without telling anybody, they took a three-month break in the middle of the season. Not only do I have a three-month break in the middle, but then I had to wait 90 days after the finale. I was like, 'Come on guys, what the F.' I even tried to talk to them and was like, 'can we get the 90 days taken down to 60 or 30 days? I can't go do stuff because you're holding me to this contract. You decided, without telling anybody that you're taking a mid-season break, which you didn't do the first two seasons.' I had to wait half a year before I could do anything. It was frustrating," said Ricochet on the Wrestling Friends podcast with "Flash" Morgan Webster.

Lucha Underground contracts are infamous in the wrestling world as many were held to their contracts after the fourth season aired with the premise that there would be a fifth season. King Cuerno (El Hijo del Fantasma), Joey Ryan, Ivelisse, and more filed a class-action lawsuit against the promotion in order to gain their respective releases.

Ricochet did go on to say that he believes his contract situation with Lucha Underground, and the delay worked out for the best as he was still able to work Independent and Japan dates. The final episode of the third season aired on October 18, 2017, sixteen months after it was taped. He was signed by WWE on January 16, 2018.
