Rob Van Dam Recalls Sid Giving Him $20 For Making Him Look Good In A 1992 WWF Squash Match
In 1992, Sid stepped into the ring with Matt Burn & Mike Casey on an episode of WWE Wrestling Challenge. The match lasted less than three minutes as WWE was building Sid to be a monster moving up the card.
Matt Burn turned out to be Rob Van Dam, and recalled Sid’s generosity after the match.
“We had the match with him, and he squashed both of us, probably pinned us both at the same time. In the dressing room afterward, Sid came up to me, and he said to [Mike], too, ‘I want you to know that I really appreciate what you did for me out there. I’m trying to make my way up the card. What I want to do is wrestle Hulk Hogan. You guys made me look like a monster out there. You brought me from here [hand low] up to here [raises hand]. I really appreciate that. You guys did a lot for me and I want to thank you.’ He gave us each 20 bucks. ‘I know this ain’t much, but hopefully it’ll help get you down the road a little bit.’ Who does that? I’m definitely a fan of his and had a good experience with him,” RVD said on his 1 of a Kind podcast.
The squash match would be the only time Sid and RVD would share the ring.
Sid is set to be inducted into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame as part of the legacy wing.
