Rob Van Dam Talks Potential WWE Return

Rob Van Dam says he can go back to WWE whenever he wants.

The former WWE champion last wrestled for WWE in 2014. He returned for the 2013 Money in The Bank pay-per-view and stuck around on television for several months. In an interview with Sports Illustrated Van Dam talked about his current relationship with WWE.

“I have an open door with WWE as far as wrestling goes. I also have an ongoing merchandise relationship. I hope that the right opportunity presents itself so that I will do another run with WWE. For me, the fans missing me and wanting to see me on TV is very important, but the business end of it also has to be right," said Van Dam.

Van Dam did not say if he had spoken recently to WWE about returning but is confident it would happen if needed.

“I certainly hope that comes together, and it will be something that is right for me and right for WWE and right for the fans. But at this point, I do not have any plans of such. Even when I’m not wrestling, I still appreciate all my fans. I take all the compliments to heart. I don’t think all the other wrestlers hear the same love from the fans that I do—they are extreme about it,” said Van Dam.

Since 2014, Van Dam has wrestled infrequently at independent promotions and done some stand-up comedy. He says he almost went back to WWE in 2015 with Tommy Dreamer and The Dudley Boys but he could not reach an agreement with WWE.

The rest of the interview covers Van Dam's relationship with Sabu, winning the WWE championship and medical marijuana. It is available at si.com
