Rocky Romero On Mercedes Mone's NJPW Future: We've Loved Working With Her And Would Love To Continue

Rocky Romero speaks on Mercedes Mone's current status with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

When Sasha Banks left WWE, Mercedes Mone decided to begin her journey outside of that world in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Mercedes would go on to be the second IWGP Women's Champion and was on her way to becoming the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women's Champion when an injury forced an audible to be called and that honor was given to Willow Nightingale instead.

In a new interview with WrestlePurists, Rocky Romero gave an update on the status of the former champion and her relationship with NJPW.

"I honestly don't have an update right now. I hope that I'll be talking to her agent and her maybe soon-ish, but I honestly don't have any update about anything," he said. "The last thing I had heard was that she was recovering well and basically, they were going to let me know or reach out when she was getting close to a comeback."

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that there were no plans for her to return to either New Japan or STARDOM and she had currently had no scheduled dates with the Bushiroad promotions. In response to this Rocky Romero says that there is communication between both sides and that everyone has loved working with her and would love to continue doing so.

"There's definitely still communication," he said. "Obviously, I don't know what she's going to want to do when she comes back for sure. Especially coming back from a serious injury that kind of messed her up, you know, maybe messed up her timeframe of what she wanted to do and how she wanted to do it. So, I really couldn't speak for her, I don't think it would be fair.

"I think that she thoroughly enjoyed her time in New Japan and New Japan loved working with her and obviously would love to continue to work with her, but I think everybody's pretty happy with the work that we've done," he added.

It is unknown when or where Mercedes will return to the ring.

Since her injury occurred, Mercedes Mone had appeared in the audience during AEW All In in London, England.

Most recently, she was asked about potentially appearing at AEW Full Gear. Fans can read her comments on that at this link.
