Roman Reigns discusses Dean Ambrose's upcoming exit from WWE.
On Jan. 29, PWTorch reported that Dean Ambrose would not be renewing his WWE contract when it expires in April. Later in the day, WWE confirmed Ambrose's decision, releasing a statement that read, "Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.?
Roman Reigns has been one of Ambrose's closest friends as the two have been tied at the hip as members of The Shield since their WWE debut in 2012. Reigns was away from WWE from October 22, 2018 to February 25, fighting leukemia. While away from the company, Reigns said he found out about Dean's decision like most of the world.
"I think I actually read it on Twitter so I didn't take it too seriously," Reigns told reporters via Sky Sports. "I've always known Ambrose and he likes to stay unpredictable and march to the beat of his own drum. I know one thing, he just wants to be happy. He's kind of been preparing for when he doesn't have to rely on anybody. We've been lucky enough to be on a crazy roller-coaster ride over the last few years and secure ourselves. It still is a big shock and we haven't had much time to talk about it because we've been on the gas pedal since I've been back"
Fightful reported that with Reigns back in the mix, WWE is hoping he can be "The Dean Whisperer" and help repair the relationship between them and Ambrose. Ambrose reportedly turned down a five-year deal with a seven-figure downside. On an appearance on the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast shortly after it was reported he would be leaving WWE, Ambrose hinted that he is not in wrestling for the money, but simply loves the sport and artistry of it.
Reigns went on to say, "It concerns me a bit - the last thing I want is for one of my good friends to leave but as long as he's happy and healthy we'll be good. We'll still talk all the time but this is WWE and you never know what's going to happen."
Reigns and Ambrose got back together this past week on Raw, reforming The Shield alongside Seth Rollins. The trio is scheduled to face Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre in six-man tag team action this Sunday at WWE Fastlane.
