Ronda Rousey Says She's Main Eventing WrestleMania 38, Set A Goal To Return At WWE Royal Rumble

Ronda Rousey wanted to challenge herself.

Rousey gave birth on September 27, 2021 to a girl named La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō Browne. Four months later, she was back in a wrestling ring as a surprise entrant in the women's Royal Rumble, which she would go on to win.

Appearing on Ellen with Ellen DeGeneres, Rousey discussed her return to competition months after giving birth.

"My mom, she was an example of being a working, strong mother. She was working as an engineer and working for a PhD, and was the first American to the World Championships in Judo while she was a single mother, all at the same time. I always felt like I could do anything as a mom because of her and I wanted to give my little girl that same example. Oh, and my mom made weight and won the US Open six weeks after giving birth to my sister Maria. I was like, 'I don't think I can beat that record, but I can't just let it lie. I got to do something cool.' As soon as I knew my due date, I was like, 'You know what, I bet I could come back and win the Royal Rumble and go to WrestleMania within that timeframe.' I set that goal and it seemed insane at first, especially right after giving birth because I just got hit by like a semi-truck carrying razor blades straight in the crotch. I was like, 'I don't know how this is going to work.' I tried really hard and for there," she said. "I started my diet two weeks after. Six weeks, they're like, 'don't do anything else, you could hurt herself.' I waited until six weeks to start working out."

By winning the Royal Rumble, Rousey could pick her opponent for WrestleMania and opted to go after Charlotte Flair and the SmackDown Women's Championship.

Rousey said on Ellen that she would be in the main event of WrestleMania Saturday.

"I'm going to be in the main event for the second time. I was part of the first main event with women, this is the third. It's becoming almost something that doesn't even need to be mentioned anymore, which is the goal," she said.

On Raw, Kevin Owens referred to his segment with Steve Austin as the main event and Vince McMahon said Seth Rollins needed his own main event when announcing him for WrestleMania. All three matches/segments are scheduled for WrestleMania Saturday.
