Rugby Player Ilona Maher Shares That She’s Been Approached By WWE

She is intrigued by the idea of joining the business.
At the age of 17, Ilona Maher began playing Rugby. She has since gone on to win three National Intercollegiate Rugby Association Championships at Quinnipiac University, represented the United States national team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
There’s a piece on Maher by BBC Sport. She revealed to the outlet that she’s been approached by WWE. She is not sure if she should go into wrestling or not.
“I’ve been approached before by the WWE. I don’t know if I would (go into wrestling). I should think about it, there is great money in it.”
Maher stated that if she does take the route of heading into the business, she’d want to do what Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and John Cena did, which is eventually transition to acting.
“I would love to get into the acting space and the scripted space. I think a Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, John Cena progression — I would love to do that. It would be exciting to see my body type on the screen. I’ll start off small – probably like a hot assassin or something, let’s not get too crazy! I’m not going to be in a rom-com just yet. We’ll see. The world is open, but I do see myself coming back to rugby.”
In December 2024, Maher signed with the Bristol Bears in the Premiership Women’s Rugby league. In July, she was selected for the USA Women’s national rugby union team.
Maher will participate in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from August 22nd to September 27th.
