Rusev says he owes a lot of his success to John Cena.

During Rusev’s first run with WWE, the peak of his time in the promotion may have came early on at WrestleMania 31, where he would face off with and defeat John Cena at the event with the WWE United States Championship on the line.

While speaking to VoxCatch in a new interview, Rusev was asked about what he learned from his bout with John Cena.

“I learned a lot from John Cena you know. I got to wrestle him quite a bit throughout my years in WWE and I owe a lot of my success to him because I got to learn from him, wrestling him, beating him as well, I’m always going to be thankful for that. That moment was special, you know, it’s WrestleMania. That’s the pinnacle of every professional wrestler, and to go out on a tank with my wife Lana in front of 75,000 people was absolutely a dream that you can’t even- you can’t even have when you’re a kid because you can’t, especially in Bulgaria where I come from, it’s very hard to dare to dream, right? So this was like a very surreal moment and I’m thankful to God and Jesus because he made it all possible.”

‘The Bulgarian Brute’ was then asked if he would like to wrestle Cena during his current retirement tour.

“Oh, that would be absolutely yes, sir. But will I hurt him? Yes, sir. Will I beat him? Yes, sir. So maybe I’m not going to be an appropriate opponent. for a farewell John Cena tour.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Rusev spoke about what his main goal was for his second run with WWE. You can read more about that here.
