Rusev Says He Lit A Fire In Jey Uso Before Live Event Match In Japan, ‘We Went And Kicked Ass For 15 Minutes’
Rusev recalls a recent match with Jey Uso.
On October 18, 2025, Rusev and Uso faced off in a singles match at a WWE SuperShow live event in Tokyo. The event took place at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall.
Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports for a new interview, Rusev talked about the match, saying that the match kicked ass after he lit a fire underneath Uso’s butt.
“I wrestled Jey Uso in Japan and I kind of had to light a fire up behind because I wanted to go, man. I had to tell him, hey, I’m going so hard and I’m not gonna apologize. I’m going so hard because I’ve had a period of time where you have one match and you don’t know when the next match is coming. That’s a very scary situation. Now, we have this hot crowd in Japan, let’s freaking go man, let’s go 150% because this building has all that history — not just all these sumo guys over here on top of the rafters, but so much professional wrestling history is in that building. I fired a light behind his butt and we went and kicked ass for 15 minutes, man. That’s what I love about professional wrestling, sometimes you don’t feel good but you go out there and you feel it and you do the best you can. That’s the old school mentality. That’s what I learned from John Cena and Mark Henry and Big Show and all of these old school guys.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Rusev stated that he doesn’t think John Cena will stay retired. Check out his full comments here.
