Rusev Says Wrestling Sheamus Is Knocking The Ring Rust Off Him

Rusev discusses his hard-hitting rivalry with Sheamus since returning to WWE.

Rusev and Sheamus have had a complicated history on WWE programming. Rusev defeated Sheamus to capture the WWE United States Championship for the first time back in 2014. About a year later, Rusev and Sheamus would be allies as members of the League of Nations.

They would ultimately go their separate ways, but since Rusev has returned to WWE, Sheamus has been his greatest rival yet. As they now look to settle their score once and for all in a Good Old-Fashioned Donnybrook Match at WWE Clash in Paris, Rusev is explaining the benefit of having such tough fights with “The Celtic Warrior” to Denise Salcedo in a new interview.

“I think it’s more than my biggest match since my return. I think it’s the biggest match I have had in a while, and it’s also going to be the most brutal match I’ve ever had, right? So I expect nothing less but pain. I expect nothing less but a very hard, physical match with Sheamus. We all know Sheamus. He’s stubborn, he’s got a big heart, and he can hit hard, but he can also get hit hard. So it’s not going to be an easy match. We’ve already reserved a couple of beds in the nearby hospital just in case. But, yeah, I’m excited. I can’t say that I’m not excited.”

Furthermore, Rusev says that wrestling Sheamus is helping him shake off the ring rust that he might have accumulated not only during the time between AEW and WWE but also due to the lack of matches he had during his time in AEW.

“I had a little rust, to be honest, a little ring rust, if you will. Because in AEW, I did not have as many matches. I had probably like 30 or 40 matches in four or five years. Before, I used to have 30 matches in 30 days or something. So it’s a difference. So I had to shake a little bit off the rust, but that served me well. The more I fight Shamus, the better I feel, the more aggressive I get, the more I get into my flow. So yeah, I’m really excited about that. I’m really excited to showcase my full ability once I click back in completely.”
