Ryohei Oiwa Cites Bret Hart & Ricky Steamboat As Inspiration For Style Of Match In NJPW G1 Climax 36 Final
Ryohei Oiwa further speaks about the bout.
The winner of the 2026 New Japan Pro-Wrestling G1 Climax tournament, Ryohei Oiwa, was interviewed by NJPW1972.com.
In the extensive interview, it was brought up that Oiwa mentioned during his post-G1 press conference that the style he wrestled in the tournament final is one he picked up from his excursion to Pro Wrestling NOAH.
He added that he also learned the style from watching Bret Hart and Ricky Steamboat.
“I learned a lot from watching old school guys in America as well, Bret Hart and Ricky Steamboat.”
Next up for Oiwa is finding out who he will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at King of Pro-Wrestling on October 12th. He’ll face either the current champion Yota Tsuji or Hirooki Goto as they are set to meet for the belt at Destruction in Kobe on September 27th.
