Sami Zayn was prepared to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on WWE Raw.
Instead, he ended up facing CM Punk after Cody was attacked by Gunther and ruled unable to compete. It was Punk’s first match since losing the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 42, and his first appearance since the Raw after WrestleMania.
Punk won, ending Sami’s reign as champion after nine days.
“How is it that after 24 years of crawling and inching for every little inch to get the WWE Championship, after I finally get it, NINE DAYS AFTER I GET! That piece of shit can walk back in here, after not being here for months, for months, and walks right in and gets it? That motherfucker. He has no business, no business!” Sami Zayn exclaimed in a social media video following his loss.
