Sami Zayn Says He Asked To Wrestle Sean Waltman At SummerSlam Two Years Ago, Waltman Responds

Sami Zayn shared an idea that he pitched two years ago.

On Twitter, Zayn replied to a fan who posted a video of his match (then El Generico) with Sean Waltman (as The 1-2-3 Kid) from CHIKARA's King of Trios event in 2011. He revealed that he asked if he could wrestle the two-time Hall of Famer at SummerSlam two years ago (2019's show was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada). Sami was not featured on that night and hasn't performed at the summer spectacular since 2016 when he and Neville (now PAC in AEW) defeated The Dudley Boyz on a pre-show match.

Today, Waltman responded to Zayn's message and said that if it's something people are interested in seeing, he'd be open to making it a reality at next year's SummerSlam.

Waltman recently underwent knee surgery and has openly stated that he's hoping it allows him to have one final run in the world of wrestling. Last month he spoke with Sports Illustrated and said, “I’d be psyched to have more matches in a WWE ring. If they’re not interested, there are a lot of other places putting on great matches, too.”

In addition to Zayn, NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar has also shared his hope to one day have a match with Waltman.

On Tuesday, April 6, WWE aired their Hall of Fame ceremony for the classes of 2020 and 2021. Waltman was inducted as one of the original members of the nWo. During his time in WCW, he performed as Syxx. This is the second time Waltman has been honored, previously being inducted for his work as X-Pac in D-Generation X.

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp joined Waltman on the latest episode of his Pro Wrestling 4 Life podcast to discuss his run in CHIKARA as The 1-2-3 Kid.
