Guevara speaks candidly about the four pillars conversation.
There's a new interview with Sammy Guevara that was conducted by Justin Dhillon of The Wrestling Classic.
One of the topics of conversation was AEW's four pillars, which was the name given to Guevara, MJF, Jack Perry, and Darby Allin during the beginning stages of All Elite Wrestling.
Guevara dove into that and the conversation that the pillars of AEW have changed. He said if that is the case, it does not change what he, Perry, MJF, and Allin were able to do. He then reflected on their four-way match for the AEW World Title at Double or Nothing 2023.
“I mean, the beginning because I didn’t -- we didn’t give ourselves that (four pillars label), right? We were just four guys that, especially during the pandemic, were doing crazy things to try to put this company on the map and try to take advantage of all our opportunities because ultimately, I believe that’s what AEW is about is pushing the younger guys and we were the four younger guys that were really trying to break through and whatever that meant, throwing caution to the wind, especially me and Darby (Allin). It was almost a competition for a while, like, he’s gonna do something crazy, I’m gonna do something crazy. It’s really cool though. Hard work pays off and people eventually will see it the more you work hard… To be able to be the four guys to wrestle at Double or Nothing (2023), it was really cool because, you know, ultimately, I don’t believe some people may have thought that, oh, these four guys are gonna go for the (World Title) when we have all these other stars like a Kenny Omega and all these other people but it’s like, oh no, we’re also the stars too, you know? That helped build this place up and very happy with it. I see people have their own opinions of, ‘Well, this guy’s here now and this guy’s here. These are the new pillars’ or whatever and it’s like, I feel like it’s like a Mount Rushmore. Everybody can have their own opinion of it and I see nothing wrong with it. If you think this person’s a pillar, that’s perfectly fine. You think this person is? Ultimately, it doesn’t change anything that me, Darby, Jungle (Jack Perry), or MJF -- I hate that guy -- did to help in the beginning. It doesn’t change anything that we did for many years in front of nobody during the pandemic. It doesn’t change that.”
Guevara is one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Dustin Rhodes. They've held the titles since August 2024 and last defended them at AEW/ROH Global Wars Australia in February.
