The feud between Samoa Joe and AJ Styles may never end.
After battling at SummerSlam and Hell in a Cell, Joe and Styles are set to meet for a third time at WWE Super Show-Down on Oct. 6. Of course, the history between the two men goes all the way back to 2003 when they squared off in Ring of Honor. The feud was taken to new heights in 2005 when they battled over the TNA X Division Title. Since then they've had countless matches across multiple promotions.
Speaking Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Joe discussed his 15-year feud with The Phenomenal One.
?The feud has kind of never gone away, indicative of the people involved,? Joe said. ?Everywhere I?ve gone AJ has been a constant presence staring across from me in the locker room. It?s no surprise to see our feud ignited here and still going strong.?
Their war in WWE is a bit different as it's not only about being the best and over a World Title, but families have entered the fray. Joe brought AJ's wife and kid into the mix prior to SummerSlam, using them as a way to get under Styles' skin.
Despite his threatening tone on-screen, Joe explains that Styles' family understands that it's all business.
?I think at this point we have some battle-hardened families who have seen it all,? he said. ?They?ve been steeped and immersed in the lifestyle that we do. If anything, they very much understand the circumstances that exist, and it has been no issue to them.?
The story between Joe and AJ has carried SmackDown throughout the summer and into the fall. While Joe has been a highlight of SmackDown Live every week with his work on the microphone, he is quick to thank those he works with behind the scenes.
?It has been a real collaboration. As much as I?d love to sit here and tell you, and most people would gladly, that it was all me out there. Yeah, it is me doing my thing," he said. "It?s also a lot of great ideas being passed around. People who are passionate and care about the story and really getting into it. It has translated into good TV. It has been really good.?
