Samoa Joe Reveals He Fractured Ankle While Filming Season Two Of Twisted Metal, Provides Update On AEW Return

Joe is making the media rounds.
Season two of the Peacock series ‘Twisted Metal’ premiered on the streaming service on July 31st, and the cast is on a media tour to promote it.
Samoa Joe stars in the show as ‘Sweet Tooth,’ and he spoke with Mike Johnson of PWInsider about his experience filming the latest season. Joe revealed that he suffered a fractured ankle during filming and spent the rest of his time on set wrapping his ankle up and limping through the pain.
“Normally, I would say the ring is always a much more precarious place to be in, but halfway through the season, I fractured my ankle. Nothing crazy — we had done a series of pretty crazy driving stunts and some dangerous things here and there. Then it was just parking, and I had to hop out the back on some really rocky, busted-up asphalt. I turned my ankle and spent the rest of the season taping it up and limping through it. Twisted Metal is incredibly physical — fighting scenes, driving scenes. Anytime that car is driving, you see me in it, it’s me. It’s a demanding role, but spending enough time in the ring as I have, it’s no new territory.”
Joe has been off AEW programming since All In Texas. After The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs) retained the AEW World Trios Titles over Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and Gabe Kidd, the Death Riders ambushed the winning team, placed a chair around Joe’s neck and stomped on it. Joe was stretchered off as a result.
He stated that he’ll be back on AEW TV sooner rather than later, and once medical protocols are cleared, he’ll be back in the mix.
“Definitely sooner than later. We’re clearing our various medical protocols, and as soon as we’re done with that, we’ll be back to business.”
The next installment of AEW Dynamite is taking place on August 13th from Cincinnati, Ohio.
