San Diego Comic-Con Announces Virtual Panels For 2020, WWE & Lucha Libre Panels Set

With San Diego Comic-Con making the move to virtual for 2020, all of the panels will be available on the official YouTube channel and there are plenty of panels centered around the world of professional wrestling.

Lucha Libre will be featured via their own panel entitled Mexican Lucha Libre: History, Tradition, Legacy on Saturday, July 25 beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific featuring Rey Misterio relative of WWE star Rey Mysterio.

This panel will focus on the history, living legacy and future of Mexican Lucha Libre, a free-form wrestling, famous for its dramatic and colorful display of masks and characters. Lucha Libre has inspired many manifestations, having a huge impact in Mexican popular culture and beyond, including films, comics, cartoons, television programs, toys, etc. Panelists analyzed the history and role of Lucha Libre in Mexican culture, its current situation and its future as a traditional sport in Mexico.

Rey Misterio, professional wrestler and Lucha Libre champion, with a 40-year career.

No Strange Bedfellows: The Relationship Between Pro Wrestling and Comics is a panel that will dive into the similarities and differences between pro wrestling and the world of comic books. This panel will take place on Friday July 24, 2020 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Some have called the spectacle of pro wrestling "a comic book come to life." That is not far from the truth. From the heroics of Hulk Hogan to the anti-heroics of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and the villainy of Ric Flair, this panel explores the parallels in character development and storyline advancement between these outrageous forms. Featuring Rik Offenberger (First Comics News), Francis Szyskowski (The Massacre Twins), Michael Kingston (Headlocked), Anthony Ray Bench (Film Threat), R.C. Samo (FanboyNation.com), and Flobo Boyce (The Indelible Silverstreek). Moderated by Joshua Waldrop (Red Guerrilla Media).

WWE will of course be featured at this event as well as is tradition. Their panel with Mattel will feature names such as Edge and Johnny Gargano. Their panel will take place at the same time as the Lucha Libre panel on Saturday, July 25 at 5 p.m. Pacific.

The superstars of WWE and the Mattel action figure design team reveal the most exciting, authentic, upcoming WWE figure releases. Moderated by "The Last Professional Broadcaster" Sam Roberts, the panel features Mattel Elite Squad members Bill Miekina and Steve Ozer, and WWE superstars Edge, Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Rhea Ripley, and Ricochet!
