Santos Escobar has advanced in the Invitational Tournament to crown a new top challenger for the WWE United States Championship.
On the July 14 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, Santos Escobar defeated Grayson Waller, Butch, and AJ Styles to advance in the WWE United States Championship Invitational Tournament.
AJ Styles had the match won when a video appeared of Karrion Kross attacking the other members of The O.C. This caused AJ Styles to be distracted, leading to him being taken out by Waller. Waller would then hit his Stunner on Butch, but Esocabar would hit a Diving Body Splash on Waller for the victory.

Escobar will now face the winner of another Fatal 4-Way that will take place on July 21 between Rey Mysterio, LA Knight, Cameron Grimes, and Sheamus on July 28 to crown a new number-one contender for Austin Theory's title belt.
