Santos Escobar: LWO Using 'Viva La Raza' In Our Theme Song Was Rey Mysterio's Idea, Rey's A Genius

Santos Escobar discusses paying tribute to Eddie Guerrero.

On the March 31, 2023, episode of WWE SmackDown, Rey Mysterio recruited Santos Escobar, Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, and Zelina Vega to form a new Latino World Order (LWO). The stable was originally featured in WCW, and it included Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero, among other members. The new LWO has paid tribute to Guerrero in multiple ways, and it uses his classic "Viva La Raza" catchphrase at the beginning of their theme music.

Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Escobar recalled how the tribute to the former world champion came about. He noted that Rey Mysterio came up with the idea. Escobar stated that Rey wanted to do something that elevated the LWO and paid homage to the ones who they needed to honor.

"That was Rey’s idea. Rey’s a genius. Every single good thing that you could say about this industry, he is that. Sure enough with that, [Rey] said, “We need something that elevates the LWO and pays respect and homage to who we need to do it. I believe that’s – as opposed to having us imitate him every step of the way, which I feel would not be the right move, we have that [instead]. It’s sort of like him saying, “It’s my people! I’ll leave you to decide if they’re good enough.” That’s it! Viva la Raza," Escobar said.

Escobar will face Rey Mysterio in the finals of the United States Championship Invitational on the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown. More information is available here.
