Santos Escobar Says Rey Mysterio Suffered Mild Concussion In 7/28 WWE SmackDown Match

On the July 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio competed against each other with the winner earning a shot at the WWE United States Title.

Escobar was awarded the victory due to referee stoppage after Rey Mysterio banged his head on the aisle following an Escobar dive to the outside. WWE announced that Mysterio was out with "severe whiplash."

When asked by Steve Fall on Ten Count if the bout went down as planned, Escobar replied, "The show that you got was the show that it was going to be. I believe that it is important to present a good show and I believe that was the case that night. Rey and I went hard, that's what we agreed upon. We have a long relationship, we have a bond. When you have that, you go hard. That's what happens when you go hard. He had a small, mild concussion, but he came back and you know what happened."

Escobar was scheduled to challenge Austin Theory on the August 11 episode of WWE SmackDown for the WWE US Title. However, Theory took out Escobar before the match. Mysterio ended up taking Escobar's place in the match, going on to win the WWE US Title.

Mysterio will face Grayson Waller on the August 25 episode of WWE SmackDown.
