Satoru Sayama (Original Tiger Mask) Provides Health Update, Comments On Doing ‘Tiger Step’ At Tiger Mask IV’s Retirement Show

Satoru Sayama comments on the in-ring moment.

The in-ring career of Tiger Mask IV came to an end on July 7th at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. New Japan Pro-Wrestling hosted the festivities, and after Tiger Mask’s final matches, there was the post-match ceremony and celebration.

Among those who appeared was Satoru Sayama, the Original Tiger Mask. Sayama and Tiger Mask IV squared off in the ring for a moment, and Sayama did a quick ‘Tiger Step,’ which drew a shocked response from the audience because of his swift movement.

Sayama participated in a press conference (via Tokyo Sports) and commented on the in-ring moment.

“I’m feeling great. I feel like I’m gradually getting back to my old self. Before, I couldn’t express my emotions, but now I can. I was able to walk and did the Tiger Step, but I wondered if that guy (Tiger Mask IV) would do it too—he didn’t though, and just stood there looking dumbfounded. Instead, the crowd loved it, so next time I’ll aim for the somersault kick,” he laughed.

Sayama has been battling Parkinson’s disease and other health issues. He said that thanks to treatments and medicine, he’s been feeling better.

“I really feel great. I couldn’t talk this much before, and even at home, my understanding of martial arts theory is progressing rapidly—my mind is sharp, and it feels like everything has come back.”

As for Tiger Mask IV’s post-retirement plans, he addressed that, and his comments can be read here.
