The announcement was made at MLW Kings of Colosseum.

Kojima came out to greet the crowd, tossing bagels to the audience. Kojima said he was going to win the MLW World Heavyweight Title, but before he could continue, he was interrupted by Sami Callihan.

Callihan was not pleased that Kojima was getting a title match and told Kojima to go fuck himself. The two men started to trade punches before officials came to break it.

Kojima is a former MLW World Heavyweight Champion, winning the title in 2002.

Kane has been champion since MLW Never Say Never 2023. He successfully defended the title at MLW Kings of Colosseum against Richard Holliday.
