Saya Kamitani Announces She Is Taking A Break From In-Ring Competition, Will Return In February

Saya Kamitani will be taking the next month off.

During a backstage interview at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20, Saya Kamitani announced she would be taking a break from in-ring competition.

She said she will return on February 7th to defend her World of Stardom Title against Starlight Kid.

Stardom President Taro Okada said after Dream Queendom that Kamitani was banged up.

“Got it. Today’s reason for defeat, the reason we lost. Saya-sama, it’s because you worked too hard. So, I’m going to take some paid leave starting tomorrow. I’m going to rest a bit, Okada (President), is that okay? I’m going to take a break for a while. There’s a match set with Starlight Kid on 2.7 in Osaka, but if it’s that kitten, it’ll be a breeze, right?” she said at the press conference.

Kamitani competed at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20, losing the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship in a double title match to Syuri. Syuri’s IWGP Women’s Title was on the line.

Kamitani competed in 114 matches in 2025 and was named the Tokyo Sports MVP for the year.
