Over the years, Slaughter has had several ties to the G.I Joe franchise and toy line from Hasbro. He would feature as part of the animated TV series in the 90, as well as the animated movie. Slaughter would also work as a spokesman for the brand in 1989 and 1990, and would have four different versions of himself released as toys in the 1980s with the brand.

While speaking to Sky Girl Reporter in a new interview, Sgt Slaughter would explain how he became the first living G.I Joe and why Hasbro figured he should be the first living G.I Joe.

“Well, I went up against the Iron Sheik from Iran. G.I. Joe and Hasbro liked what I was doing for the United States of America. President Reagan brought me to the White House, flew an American flag in my honor over the Capitol. So Hasbro figured I should be the first living G.I. Joe.”

Elsewhere in another interview, Slaughter spoke about his Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling. You can read more about that here.
