Shawn Michaels: I've Tried To Eat A Lot Of Things, But Turnbuckle Isn't One Of Them

George "The Animal" Steele was one of the more unique characters during his time in wrestling, famously eating turnbuckles when he appeared on television.

Shawn Michaels, who often played a turned up version of himself on television, is in the business of creating characters as the leader of creative in NXT.

Speaking to Scott Smith on No Days Off, Michaels was asked why "cocky and brash" is a more common character than "eating turnbuckles."

"I think because people can understand cocky and brash. It was way more common, especially today, than somebody that is eating turnbuckles. You can walk down the road and see a lot of people who may think they are the coolest dude in the world or think they are the hottest guy in the world and think their stuff doesn't stink. I don't see a lot of people eating turnbuckles walking down the road. Our business has changed quite a bit and it has to be things that connect and are relatable to people. I'll also say this, the irony of our business is that it's actually based on a lot of reality to who the superstars are. It's their personalities kind of turned up to ten. Everything you see on television, these individuals have as significant attributes to who they really are," said Michaels.

Asked if he's ever eaten a turnbuckle, Michaels replied, "I have not. Tried a lot of things but turnbuckle wasn't one of them."

The more you know.
