WWE's marketing for the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at WWE Backlash 2020 between Edge and Randy Orton is so good that Shawn Michaels was convinced the match already happened.
Shawn Michaels was one of the many legends utilized to hype the upcoming match at Backlash putting Edge and Randy Orton in what is being hyped as the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.”
The funny thing is, the hype machine has been so strong for this match that Shawn Michaels was under the impression it had already taken place and blown everybody away before he realized he was being asked to come in for a promo to preview the match.
“There’s so many things about the wrestling business I don’t know. At first, when I heard about it I was thinking to myself, ‘Man I got to see that!‘ I didn’t know it had not taken place yet until I was asked to do interviews for it on [Raw],” Shawn Michaels told Metro on a recent UK media call. “Of course, my question was ‘Oh, it hasn’t happened yet?’ They’re like, ‘No, it’s being billed like that.’ Oh my goodness! I thought to myself, ‘My goodness, why don’t they put a little more pressure on those guys!’ [laughs] That’s a tough billing to live up to!”
Continuing on, Shawn Michaels said that two performers the caliber of Edge and Randy Orton will enjoy having the challenge to live up to.
"Look, they’re no different [from] the rest of us. Everyone loves a challenge. In WWE, everyone understands what the big ‘E’ means in our line of work – but at the same time, there’s still competition,” Shawn explained. “You still want to go out there with the guy you’re in the ring with and have the absolute best match you can.”
