Shawn Spears Wins NXT North American Title On WWE NXT

Shawn Spears has captured his first singles championship in WWE.

In the main event of the March 4 episode of WWE NXT, Shawn Spears defeated Tony D'Angelo to capture the WWE NXT North American Title. The former champion put up a valiant effort, but the damage done to his back in recent weeks caught up with him in the end.

The match broke down when the D'Angelo Family (Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo) started brawling with Spears' faction of Izzi Dame, Niko Vance, and Brooks Jensen. Unfortunately for Tony, Stacks got in the ring and Spears knocked him into Tony, who flew off the apron and landed back-first onto his steel chair. Tony continued to try to fight after this. However, his back eventually gave out when going for his signature Spinebuster, and as he crumbled, Spears landed on top of him and hooked his leg for the victory.

Tony D'Angelo was champion for 142 days. He defended the title 10 times throughout his run.
