Sheamus Wants WWE To Bring Back Classic Intercontinental And Winged Eagle Championships

Sheamus would like to see a bit of nostalgia return to WWE.

Though Sheamus has never won the Intercontinental Championship, should he win it during his career, he would like to change the strap green to fit his Irish heritage

If he can't change the strap green, he would like to see the original Intercontinental Championship return.

"Yeah, of course," Sheamus told Graham GSM Matthews when asked about changing the strap green. "I also love the old school one. Not the white strap that was brought back, but the original one that (Randy) Savage, (Ricky) Steamboat, and Bret Hart wore. It's an iconic and classic title. I understand the way WWE wants to keep changing the looks of the title to keep them fresh, but I still think there's a lot of room for nostalgia and the classic look. Especially the winged eagle. Those two titles are timeless and classic. If they brought them back, that version, a lot people would be happy with it, especially a lot of the talent. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic because I grew up with those titles and that's how I got introduced to WWE, but I still feel it would be cool to bring them back."

WWE brought back the white strap Intercontinental Championship in 2011, but changed it in 2019 to the current design.

The Intercontinental Championship is currently held by Shinsuke Nakamura.

Sheamus is set to compete in the men's Royal Rumble. You can check out the current lineup for the show by clicking here.
