Shelton Benjamin opens up about a 2004 skit with Trish Stratus and Vince McMahon.
In 2004, Terrell Owens of Philadelphia Eagles and Nicolette Sheridan, an actress on the popular TV show "Desperate Housewives" were featured in a commercial for Monday Night Football, which saw the actress trying to distract the football player as she was dressed and only a towel, while he was getting ready to play a game. This skit sparked backlash and caused outrage in some circles, prompting WWE to create a parody of the sketch featuring Trish Stratus, Shelton Benjamin, and Vince McMahon.
Benjamin is now looking back at the sketch during a recent appearance on Maven's YouTube channel, where he runs through his career highlights from WWE. Benjamin revealed that he had no problem with the sketch or the language in the sketch. He also revealed that Stratus was not actually nude under the towel she was wearing while spoofing Nicolette Sheridan.
"We did one rehearsal, and again, to me, it was TV. We kind of rehearsed it once, and I heard the lines because Vince kind of changed it up here and there, but for the most part, I heard it, and I thought it was funny too. I was looking at what we were spoofing. We're holding up a mirror to American society, going, 'Do you see how stupid you look right now? This is what you have a problem with. Who is this hurting?' I was already on board."
Asked about Trish Stratus potentially being naked under the towel, he said, "No. I think they had like a bikini under there or something. Definitely not naked."
He also joked that he was jealous that Trish ended the segment by jumping into McMahon's arms.
Elsewhere in this video, he spoke about the angle from 2006 where he would work with Thea Vidale, who portrayed his mother on TV. Learn more here.
