The Dream might have memory of the advice given to him by Shinsuke Nakamura.
While their time in NXT didn't have much overlap, Nakamura was able to teach Velveteen Dream a little something while he was still Patrick Clark. Speaking to Going in Raw, Nakamura revealed the advice he gave Clark before his transformation.
"I remember I gave him advice when I was in NXT," said Nakamura. "At that time, he was still looking for his own character, before he became Velveteen Dream. 'Hey Patrick. Do too much,' I told him. Audience can't remember; if Patrick does too much, a lot of moves. One strong impression. After the whole show, people remember his character."
Clark and Nakamura worked a handful of live events against each other in NXT, and had one television segment together on the October 19, 2017 edition of the show (video above). Clark debuted his Velveteen Dream character on the May 24, 2017 episode of NXT. By that pint Nakamura had been called up to the main roster.
Dream is currently thriving in NXT with back-to-back victories over EC3 and Johnny Gargano. Nakamura has found success on the main roster, challenging for the WWE Title throughout the spring before winning the United States in July.
