Shota Umino Says He Was Diagnosed With A Concussion And Amnesia After G1 Climax 36 Night One

Shota Umino was forced out of the G1 Climax 36 tournament after the first night of action on July 11 following a bout against Zack Sabre Jr.
Speaking to Tokyo Sports, Shota opened up about his symptoms.
“Before I knew it, I was in a hotel bed, and I don’t even remember how I got back from the arena. Even after returning to Japan, I would vomit in the middle of the night, and the doctor diagnosed me with a concussion and amnesia. Since I had already been dealing with accumulated damage, I think that’s why it became so severe,” he said.
After missing the entire tournament, Shota is set to return on Saturday at NJPW Road to Destruction.
“I’m 150% healthy. It’s a sport where there’s always the risk of it happening again, but right now, I want to show everyone as soon as possible that I’m back in good health—that I’m staging a comeback from the very back of the pack. I keep telling myself that I’ll get back up no matter how many times I fall,” he said.
Shota said his goal was to regain the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title, which is currently held by Gabe Kidd.
