Sidney Akeem Reveals His Circus Origins Inspired ‘Soleil: The Black Sun’ Comic Book

Sidney Akeem explains why he started working on his “Soleil: The Black Sun” comic book.
Former WWE 24/7 Champion Sidney Akeem (then known as Reggie) has been working on the indies since leaving the company. Earlier this year, he announced his comic book, “Soleil: The Black Sun.”
Speaking on Rewind Recap Relive, Akeem discussed his comic book and why he took on this project.
“I started this comic book legit in 2020, and it wasn’t supposed to be a wrestling character. I started this because I [was] born in the circus, the circus saved my life. I believe the circus artists, they’re the closest thing to real-life superheroes that we have in today’s world. You would never go to a Cirque du Soleil show and say, ‘Oh that’s not real, that’s fake.’ Like you wouldn’t do that, you would chalk it up and say, ‘Oh man, that was insane.’ So for me, I look at superheroes and villains, I’m like, ‘There’s not many circus superheroes out there.’ Obviously, Dick Grayson, Nightwing, Robin, all of his different names, but they don’t really touch on the actual origin of his story. We talk about the circus and the flying trapeze, the Flying Graysons, but that’s it. We don’t know about what circus was or what circus is, and I said, ‘Who’s better to tell a circus story than a guy that spent two decades in the circus.’
Elsewhere in the interview, Akeem discussed the differences between his Scrypts and Soleil gimmick. Fans can read his comments here.
