Smackdown Live Match Ratings And Podcast Notes For 4/3/18 From Sean Ross Sapp

HUGGING IT OUT.

  • Daniel Bryan welcomes Shane McMahon to the ring, who says that despite his hospitalization, he's cleared to compete at WrestleMania 34 this weekend.
  • Daniel Bryan says that Shane was right about him letting his friendship with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn cloud his judgment over the last six months.
  • Shane wants to shake Daniel Bryan's hand, but Bryan (and Nashville) want them to hug it out. Finally, they do and cut a ra-ra promo.
  • Ooh Shane McMahon is gonna pop that motherfucker Charlotte in the mouth for cutting off his segment, if his kayfabe Commissioner skills are any indication.
  • We later see a video package highlighting the KO & Zayn vs. Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon feud.
Steve Maclin Confirms He's Re-Signed With TNA Wrestling

Charlotte defeated Natalya
6.25/10

  • I always expect a good match out of these two. This one is going to get some time based on the run-sheet I have.
  • I'm still a fan of Charlotte using the headscissor stomps, but WWE production screws it up.
  • Charlotte gets posted outside of the ring, and Natalya poses. I think this is a much more natural spot for her to taunt as opposed to the middle of the ring.
  • Charlotte applies a hellacious abdominal stretch as we come back from commercial. Natalya answers with an equally awesome surfboard, but Charlotte is able to roll out.
  • A Natalya rear naked choke is countered by a backpack jawbreaker. Charlotte eats boots on a moonsault attempt, though.
  • Carmella teases a cash-in, but Charlotte kicks the briefcase out of her hands. Natalya almost beats Charlotte with a sneaky roll up, but falls victim to the figure 8.
  • Asuka comes out and says the Queen will bow down to the Empress. Charlotte takes the mic
  • Neither Carmella or Asuka were listed on the format sheet. Nobody can tell me that Carmella hasn't paid her dues after having to carry that stupid ass briefcase through airports for a year.

Rusev (w/ Aiden English) defeated Jinder Mahal
4.25/10

  • Bobby Roode joins commentary, and then Sunil Singhs horribly. See what I did there.
  • This is not very good early on, but it's Jinder Mahal with a ton of offense as the crowd chants "Rusev Day."
  • Jinder Mahal, master of the top wristlock.
  • Rusev wins with the Machka kick. This match sucked.
  • RKO out of nowhere, but Aiden English beats him up. Then he eats one too when Bobby Roode pushes him to Orton. "Rusev Day" chants take over.
  • I do wanna see rapid fire RKOs Sunday.

Backstage crappenings

  • All the teams talk about WrestleMania being free until The Bludgeon Brothers hit the camera with a hammer. What a shitty way to build this match on a go home show.

Baron Corbin, Primo, Dolph Ziggler & Mojo Rawley vs. Breezango, Tye Dillinger & Zack Ryder
5/10

  • Ryder and Mojo start it out, and Byron says Mojo thought management held him down after the win last year. Mmk.
  • Dillinger and Ziggler battle during the commercial. Fandango and Primo get the hot tags.
  • Primo's last TV match was a loss to the Hype Bros on the Money in the Bank 2017 Kickoff show.
  • A bunch of finishes hit, which leaves Corbin to heave Tyler Breeze over the top rope and hit End of Days on Fandango. Win.

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

  • Zayn and KO hop the guard rail and start cutting a promo about how even though they're fired, this is still their show. They aren't buying the "like fest" between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan.
  • They apologize to Shane and Daniel's children for what they'll do to their fathers.
  • They have their mics cut out and Bryan/Shane cut a promo on the stage singing "NA NA NA NA"

AJ Styles & Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Training Day
6.5/10

  • Earlier in the night, they show AJ Styles in the back really hammering home the point of his "PITBULL MENTALITY"
  • Nakamura cuts his usual "KNEE TO FACE" promo.
  • We get a selfie promo from Training Day, where they say they plan on causing AJ and Nakamura to limp into Mania.
  • Nakamura passes up tagging Styles in and instead pats him on the head. Training Day attack and we go to a commercial.
  • Shelton Benjamin and Nakamura trade kicks, then Styles ends up tagging back in and hitting an Ushigoroshi on Gable.
  • Lots of side eyeing going on.
  • Phenomenal Forearm on Gable. Pin
  • Styles teases a forearm to Nakamura, but stops short and trolls Nakamura. I really liked that. He finally got one over on Nakamura, who got pissed. Nakamura couldn't take it as well as he could dish it out.
