Snitsky Says He And Goldust Were Supposed To Win WWE Tag Team Titles In 2006

In 2006, Gene Snitsky and Goldust formed an unlikely tag team that feuded with The Spirit Squad.

On the May 15, 2006 episode of WWE Raw, Snitsky & Goldust [Dustin Rhodes] unsuccessfully challenged for the WWE World Tag Team Titles against The Spirit Squad (Johnny & Nicky). The duo never got another shot at the titles on television, but according to Snitsky, they were slated to win the titles at one point.

"We were supposed to get the tag team straps when I was teaming with Goldust, and then he had a meltdown and that went by the wayside. They were going to do merch [merchandise]. We had a meeting with Stephanie (McMahon), they were going to do merch and all kind of stuff, and we were going to win the straps. Then, he calls me, leaves a voice message just going off the deep end. Obviously, he needed to get some help and get cleaned up. I can't fault him for that, but we were supposed to win the tag team belts," Snitsky said on Monday Mailbag with Mike Chioda.

Rhodes was released from his WWE contract on June 14, 2006, for no-showing an appearance.

Snitsky left WWE in December 2008. Snitsky would eventually retire as a full-time competitor in 2018. Rhodes is currently signed to AEW, but has said that 2023 will be his last year in wrestling.
