Pro wrestling match cards with deathmatches tend to have a fair bit of clean up, especially when the card features standard matches on top of the violent stipulations. Now, an AEW name has reflected on a moment where the aftermath of a deathmatch left them with an injury.
While speaking to Under The Mat with Simon Miller, Speedball Mike Bailey recalled a match with Blake Christian in GCW that would lead to them slicing their big toe open.
“There was one time… There was a- I was main event. It was myself against Vanilla Baby Blake Christian, before he was Vanilla Baby. He was but a vanilla zygote, and the match before us did a bunch of like panes of glass. No, sorry. It was panes of glass, scramble match, main event. Me and Blake Christian, and their solution for the cleanup was going to be to just, during the entrances to the scramble, sweep it out. All under the ring. Where else are you gonna put the glass? You know, sweep the broken glass under the ring, and then the scramble match did a door spot because this is GCW and they are legally required to. As they pulled the door from under the ring, all the glass spilled onto the floor, and then in the finishing high spot, Blake Christian hits a dive, throws me in, finish, one, two, three. As I took the dive, I sliced my big toe open. So I took the finish, one, two, three, lay there for a while, feel like, ‘why is my foot wet?’ What’s going on? Then realize that there is a just gigantic puddle of blood seeping under my foot and just like literally pooling in the ring. Like it wasn’t just like, oh, there’s some blood dripping. No, like a literal pool of blood. Which is like, I don’t know, this is GCW, so I don’t know if it’s my blood or just the pool of blood that was already there.”
Elsewhere in their most recent vlog, Speedball spoke about the main event of AEW All In. You can read more about that here.
